Leadership Development

Our Leadership Development programs have been designed specifically for Columbia University faculty and staff.  Some programs are offered on a dedicated basis for teams within schools and departments. Other programs are offered as part of our spring and fall classroom learning calendar sessions that are open to individual participants.

The Leadership Development Curriculum is as follows:

Managing and Coaching Series

  • Performance Management Program — Focus on goal setting, feedback and performance reviews. This program is offered in our spring and fall Classroom Learning public calendar sessions. Please review the classroom learning calendar for the next offering of this program.
  • Navigating the University as a New Manager — Focus on essential management knowledge, tools and resources for front-line and mid-level newly hired or promoted managers or supervisors.  Please review the classroom learning calendar for the next offering of this program.
  • Active Leadership Program — Focus on coaching, communications and leadership styles. This program is only offered on a dedicated school, department or team basis as part of our Consulting Services offerings. Please contact a member of our team if you have a group of managers you would like to have attend the program. 
  • Leading Change Program — Focus on defining, understanding the impact and planning for the changes required from staff members. This program is only offered on a dedicated school, department or team basis as part of our Consulting Services offerings.  Please contact a member of our team if you have a group of managers you would like to have attend the program. 

Strategy & Team Effectiveness Series

  • Vision Program — Focus on developing a vision statement, strategic objectives and operating values. This program is only offered on a dedicated school, department or team basis as part of our Consulting Services offerings.  Please contact a member of our team if you have a group of managers you would like to have attend the program. 
  • Team Development Program — Focus on team communications, decision-making and productivity. This program is only offered on a dedicated school, department or team basis as part of our Consulting Services offerings.  Please contact a member of our team if you have a group of managers you would like to have attend the program.

The Active Leadership program provides the concepts and practices of leadership to help managers effectively develop, coach, empower and lead their teams to higher levels of performance. The program is designed to enhance staff skills and abilities, both in their current position and in their future career development at Columbia.

Today, all schools and departments within the University experience change. Leading Change combines the latest ideas, models, tools and adult learning techniques into one, powerful program that gives leaders the skills they really need to lead change effectively.

A strong vision with clearly articulated and communicated objectives, cascaded throughout a school or department, results in a better understanding for staff of how their work connects to the larger picture.
The Team Development Program is designed to provide intact,cross-functional and project teams with the perspectives, skills andtools necessary to rapidly progress through phases of team developmentto produce results.
