We have revamped the catalog of classroom offerings to align with our most popular development requests.  Recognizing self management is just as important as managing others and managing the work we are responsible for, the new course listings highlights fundamental offerings for each of these skill areas.  Be sure to take a look at new courses that focus on career as well as personal development. 

All classroom courses are offered at the Studebaker building, 615 West 131st Street; the intercampus shuttle will take you to Studebaker from any CU campus. For more information on the intercampus shuttle schedule, please visit Columbia University Transportation Services.

 

Classroom Training Pricing and Refund Policy for Columbia Participants

Each half-day course costs $70, and full-day courses are $140.

If it becomes necessary to cancel registration, please do so by sending an email to hrlearning@columbia.edu, at least five (5) business days before the course.

Advance notification gives wait-listed participants the opportunity to attend. The cancellation notice must be received by the Learning & Development team at least (5) five business days in advance in order for the full cost of the course to be waived. If the cancellation notice is not received within five (5) business days, the full cost of the course will be charged to the registrant.

In addition, all registrants are required to obtain approval from their manager to take any of our classroom courses.

There are two methods of payment:

  1. Internal chargeback to your department: When registering for the course online, you will be prompted to provide your department's FAS number for internal chargeback purpose.
  2. Credit card payments: When registering, you also have the option to pay using a credit card.

As required by law, Columbia University HR Learning & Development does not disclose non-public personal information that we have obtained to any of our affiliates. We are committed to protecting the confidentiality of the personal information you provide. Access to your personal information is restricted to those staff members who need to know that information as part of their job in order to provide effective service to you. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that are reasonably designed to guard your non-public personal information.

Resolving Conflict and Subtle Discord (NEW)

Find solutions from conflicting interests.

Target Audience: Anyone who experiences situations where what they need is at odds with what someone else needs and a solution must be found; NOTE: this is different from needing to give difficult feedback to something (which is addressed in the course “Delivering Difficult Performance Feedback”).

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

  • Understand what conflict is, where it comes from and why it is important to manage 
  • Understand how conflict (i.e., “fighting” over something) differs from confrontation (i.e., needing to tell someone no)
  • Use the two main skills in managing conflict: empathy and assertiveness 
  • Learn different conflict management styles and be able to adapt your style based on the situation 
  • Learn a process for handling conflict where you get what you want while maintaining positive relationships
