* Any unused portion of the Tuition Exemption Benefit will be verified to confirm eligibility.
- Columbia will withhold taxes on the value of the benefit considered to be part of the employee’s taxable income by the federal government:
- The value above $5,250 per calendar year for graduate courses (or undergraduate courses that count toward a graduate degree) taken by the employee, except those that are job-related or taken as part of an undergraduate program—is considered taxable income;
- The full value for graduate courses (or undergraduate courses that count toward a graduate degree) taken by spouses, dependents, or spouse’s dependents;
- The full value for any classes, graduate or undergraduate, taken by same-sex domestic partners or their dependents.
- During the Summer Term, Barnard and Teachers College courses are not covered by tuition exemption for support staff.
- “Part-time” for TWU Local 241 employees is defined as a minimum 25-hour work week. All regular MEBA and MM&P employees are considered full-time.
